AI Transparency & Ethical AI Policy
Responsible AI Use & Algorithm Fairness | Effective: May 11, 2026
1. COMMITMENT TO ETHICAL AI
AccessStudents uses AI systems to enhance career guidance, matching, and opportunity discovery. We are committed to using AI responsibly, transparently, and fairly. This policy explains how we develop, deploy, and monitor our AI systems.
2. AI SYSTEMS USED BY ACCESSSTUDENTS
2.1 Career DNA™ Assessment
- AI-powered personality and behavioral assessment
- Based on Big Five personality model (OpenAI analysis)
- Generates scores for: Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Neuroticism
- Predicts career fit, work environment preferences, and professional compatibility
2.2 Job-Fit Matching Algorithm
- Matches student profiles to job opportunities
- Considers skills, experience, interests, and work environment preferences
- Generates "fit scores" and opportunity recommendations
2.3 Red Flags™ System
- Identifies potential hiring risks or concerning behavioral patterns
- Analyzes resume inconsistencies, suspicious profile changes, and concerning language
- Alerts employers to false credentials or potential fraud
2.4 Video Analysis System
- Analyzes student introduction and interview videos
- Extracts features: body language, tone, articulation, confidence, professionalism
- Generates communication scores and feedback
2.5 Career Path Recommendation Engine
- Suggests optimal career trajectories based on skills and psychology
- Generated using Claude/OpenAI with student profile context
- Provides personalized 4-year roadmaps
3. CRITICAL LIMITATIONS: WHAT AI IS NOT
Career DNA™ is NOT:
- A psychological or psychiatric diagnosis
- A clinical assessment tool
- A medical evaluation
- A definitive measure of intelligence or capability
- Predictive of mental health or disorders
- A hiring decision tool (employers must use human judgment)
- Therapeutic or healthcare advice
- Permanent or unchangeable
Red Flags™ is NOT:
- A legal determination
- A background check substitute
- A criminal record
- An employment recommendation
- Evidence of wrongdoing
- Reliable in all contexts
- To be used without human review
Job-Fit Scores are NOT:
- Guarantees of success
- Predictions of actual job performance
- Complete assessments of candidate quality
- Replacements for interviews
- Legal hiring criteria
4. AI FAIRNESS & NON-DISCRIMINATION
4.1 Fairness Principles
- No Discrimination: AI systems do not intentionally discriminate based on protected characteristics (race, gender, age, religion, disability, national origin)
- Bias Monitoring: We continuously audit AI systems for bias
- Fair Representation: Training data includes diverse populations
- Transparency: We disclose AI limitations and uncertainties
- Human Oversight: Humans review AI decisions in high-impact contexts
4.2 Bias Mitigation
- Diverse training data to prevent historical bias perpetuation
- Regular fairness audits across demographic groups
- Removing or reweighting features that correlate with protected characteristics
- Continuous monitoring for disparate impact
- Explainability checks to understand decision drivers
4.3 Known Limitations
- AI models may reflect biases in historical data
- Video analysis may have gender/racial bias in professional assessment
- Personality assessments may not apply equally across cultures
- Job-fit scores are based on statistical correlations, not causation
- AI cannot capture full complexity of human potential or career success
5. EMPLOYER RESPONSIBILITIES & AI USE
Employers MUST:
- Comply with employment discrimination laws (Title VII, ADA, ADEA, etc.)
- Use AI systems as tools only, not sole hiring criteria
- Apply human judgment in hiring decisions
- Validate AI recommendations against actual job performance
- Investigate Red Flags™ alerts before making decisions
- Not use Career DNA™ as psychological assessment
- Not discriminate based on protected characteristics
- Maintain records of hiring decisions and rationale
Employers MUST NOT:
- Use AI scores as sole hiring criteria
- Make automated hiring decisions without human review
- Use personality assessments to diagnose mental health
- Violate applicable employment laws
- Use Red Flags™ without investigation
- Discriminate against candidates with disabilities
- Re-disclose or share AI assessments beyond authorized purposes
6. HOW AI SYSTEMS ARE DEVELOPED & TESTED
6.1 Development Process
- Built using established ML/AI frameworks and best practices
- Tested on diverse datasets to prevent bias
- Evaluated for accuracy, fairness, and explainability
- Subject to adversarial testing (attempting to "break" the system)
- Regular updates and retraining as new data available
6.2 Accuracy Testing
- Career DNA™: Validated against established personality frameworks
- Job-Fit: Tested against actual employment outcomes
- Video Analysis: Validated against human raters
- Red Flags™: Tested for false positive/negative rates
6.3 Fairness Auditing
- Annual fairness audits across demographic groups
- Bias detection tests for gender, race, age, disability
- Disparate impact analysis
- Transparency reports published semi-annually
7. EXPLAINABILITY & TRANSPARENCY
Students & Users Receive:
- Explanation of what each AI assessment measures
- Clear statement of what it is and is NOT
- Explanation of scores and what they mean
- Information about how scores are calculated
- Ability to see inputs that influenced the score
- Disclaimer about limitations and appropriate use
- Ability to request explanation of decisions
Employers Receive:
- Explanation of algorithm purpose and limitations
- Information about model accuracy and fairness testing
- Guidance on responsible use of AI recommendations
- Notification that human judgment is required
- Documentation of legal compliance obligations
8. HUMAN OVERSIGHT & APPEAL PROCESSES
- High-Impact Decisions: Human review required for Red Flags™ and suspension decisions
- Appeals Process: Users can appeal AI decisions and request human review
- Feedback Loop: Incorrect AI decisions are reviewed and used to improve systems
- Escalation: Complex cases escalated to human experts
- Continuous Monitoring: AI system performance monitored in production
9. BEHAVIORAL DATA & PRIVACY IN AI SYSTEMS
How Behavioral Data is Used:
- Video analysis extracts professional communication features (not emotional diagnosis)
- Platform engagement patterns inform Career DNA™ accuracy
- Typing patterns, speech, and articulation analyzed for communication skills
- Job application patterns inform job-fit recommendations
Protections:
- Behavioral data is not used to diagnose mental health or psychological disorders
- Data is encrypted and access controlled
- Behavioral data is not shared with third parties without consent
- Students control whether behavioral data is used
- Behavioral data deleted upon account deletion
10. LIMITATIONS & UNCERTAINTIES
We Acknowledge:
- AI systems are probabilistic, not deterministic
- Confidence levels vary by prediction type and individual data
- AI cannot predict individual career success with certainty
- Human potential is complex and multifaceted
- Context matters: same person may succeed in different roles
- AI trained on historical data may perpetuate past inequities
- Cultural and individual differences affect assessment validity
